ใช้เป็นลิแกนด์แบบ chiral ในปฏิกิริยา asymmetric catalysis โดยเฉพาะใน enantioselective organic transformations เช่น aldol reactions, Diels-Alder reactions และ allylic alkylations โครงสร้าง axially chiral ที่มี steric hindrance ช่วยให้เกิด enantioselectivity สูงเมื่อประสานกับโลหะ เช่น titanium, aluminum หรือ boron ใช้อย่างแพร่หลายในการสังเคราะห์ pharmaceuticals และ fine chemicals ที่ต้องการควบคุม stereochemistry อย่างสำคัญ นอกจากนี้ ยังใช้ในการพัฒนา chiral sensors และ asymmetric photocatalysis เนื่องจาก helical conformation ที่เสถียรและความสามารถในการ induce chirality ในสภาพแวดล้อมปฏิกิริยา
