ห่วงคาร์บอนหกตัวในโครงสร้างเอสเทอร์ช่วยให้ hexyl nicotinate ซึมผ่านชั้นหนังกำพร้าได้รวดเร็วยิ่งขึ้น Müller et al. (2003) พบว่าเมื่อเทียบกับเอสเทอร์อื่นๆ hexyl nicotinate ให้ความเข้มข้นในหนังชั้นหนังแท้สูงสุด สอดคล้องกับการขยายหลอดเลือดที่มากขึ้น

ในการทดลองแบบ double-blind ระยะ 6 เดือน กลุ่มที่ใช้โฟมผสม nicotinic acid hexyl ester ร่วมกับโพลีฟีนอล สังกะสี ไกลซีน และคาเฟอีน มีอัตราผมเข้าสู่ระยะโทรเจนลดลง และจำนวนเส้นผมเพิ่มขึ้นเมื่อเทียบกับกลุ่มควบคุม (Welzel et al., 2022)
