Used primarily in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) or ROS1 gene rearrangements. It functions as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, blocking signals that promote tumor growth, leading to cancer cell death or slowed progression. Particularly effective in patients with metastatic disease, it helps shrink tumors and improve progression-free survival. Also investigated for use in other cancers involving ALK mutations, such as neuroblastoma and inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors. Administered orally, it offers a targeted therapy approach with generally manageable side effects compared to conventional chemotherapy.
