It works by inhibiting specific tyrosine kinases, which are enzymes that promote the growth of cancer cells. This makes it effective in targeting the abnormal proteins produced by the Philadelphia chromosome, a genetic mutation commonly associated with these types of leukemia. Additionally, dasatinib is sometimes prescribed for patients who have developed resistance to other tyrosine kinase inhibitors, such as imatinib.
