The medium incorporates 18% glycerol to achieve low water activity, inhibiting bacteria and non-xerophilic fungi while selectively promoting the growth of xerophilic (dry-tolerant) molds. Commonly employed for incubating isolates from air, surface, and product sampling to assess microbial load, ensure sterility compliance, and perform quality control. Also utilized in stability studies to evaluate product resistance to mold growth under low humidity conditions, preventing spoilage or toxin production.
