Used primarily as an antibiotic to treat bacterial infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, especially penicillinase-producing staphylococci. It is effective in treating skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, and bone and joint infections when caused by susceptible organisms. Due to its resistance to degradation by certain bacterial enzymes, it is often chosen when penicillin G may be ineffective. Administered via intravenous or intramuscular injection, it is commonly used in hospital settings for moderate to severe infections. Not effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
