Used as a key building block in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), particularly for constructing porous materials with high surface areas. Its rigid triangular structure and multiple carboxylic acid groups allow strong coordination with metal ions, enabling stable network formation. These MOFs are applied in gas storage, such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide capture, due to their tunable porosity and chemical stability. Also explored in catalysis and sensing applications where the extended aromatic system enhances electron transfer and interaction with analytes. Additionally, its photochemical properties make it suitable for use in luminescent sensors and photofunctional materials.
