Used in the treatment of multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. It works by targeting and binding to CD38, a protein found on the surface of myeloma cells, leading to their destruction through immune-mediated mechanisms such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, complement-dependent cytotoxicity, and apoptosis. Often used in combination with other therapies like lenalidomide, bortezomib, or dexamethasone for newly diagnosed, relapsed, or refractory cases. Also being studied in other CD38-positive hematologic malignancies.
