Used primarily as an intermediate in the synthesis of cyclamate salts, which are artificial sweeteners. It plays a key role in forming the N-cyclohexylsulfamate structure through reaction with amines or ammonia. Due to its reactivity, it is handled carefully in controlled environments for pharmaceutical and food additive manufacturing. Its application is almost exclusively confined to specialty organic synthesis where sulfamoyl chloride functionality is required.
