description Product Description
Used in microbiology laboratories to selectively isolate and identify Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical, environmental, and water samples. The medium supports the growth of Pseudomonas species while inhibiting most other bacteria. Its key application lies in the detection of pyocyanin, a blue-green phenazine pigment produced specifically by P. aeruginosa. The pigment is soluble in chloroform, allowing confirmatory testing by extraction. This makes the medium valuable in diagnosing P. aeruginosa infections in wound, sputum, and urine samples, as well as in monitoring water systems and pharmaceutical products for contamination. It is also used in research settings to study Pseudomonas virulence and antibiotic resistance.
