Used as a scintillation material in radiation detectors due to high light output and excellent energy resolution. Particularly effective in detecting gamma rays and neutrons, making it suitable for nuclear safeguards, homeland security, and oil well logging. The presence of bromine-79 and bromine-81 enables intrinsic neutron sensitivity without requiring additional neutron-absorbing dopants. Hydrate form allows easier handling and processing compared to anhydrous versions, while still maintaining good performance in spectroscopic applications. Also investigated for use in medical imaging and environmental radiation monitoring.
