Used as a corrosion inhibitor in drilling muds and cooling water systems to protect metal surfaces. Serves as a chemical reagent in analytical chemistry for the detection and determination of certain metal ions, especially in precipitation titrations. Employed in the production of dyes, pigments, and in the tanning of leather to improve dye uptake and provide antimicrobial properties. Utilized in the manufacture of other chromium compounds and in some electroplating processes. Also applied in microscopy as a staining agent for biological samples due to its ability to bind to cellular structures.
