Used in the synthesis of high-performance polyimides due to its rigid aromatic structure and multiple functional groups. The presence of two amino and four carboxylic acid groups allows for step-growth polymerization, forming thermally stable and mechanically strong polymers. These polyimides are applied in aerospace, microelectronics, and membrane technologies where resistance to heat and harsh environments is required. Also investigated as a building block in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for gas storage or catalysis owing to its ability to chelate metal ions and form extended networks.
