Used primarily in industrial applications as a heat transfer fluid and dielectric fluid in electrical equipment such as transformers and capacitors due to its chemical stability and non-flammability. Also found in some hydraulic fluids and plasticizers. Its persistence and toxicity have led to restricted use and environmental concerns. Historically present in certain commercial PCB mixtures used in closed systems. Not suitable for consumer products due to environmental bioaccumulation and regulatory controls.
