Used as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy for treating various cancers, particularly skin and certain solid tumors. It absorbs light in the near-infrared range, enabling deeper tissue penetration, which makes it effective in targeting malignant cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Also employed in some dermatological applications for the selective destruction of abnormal cells, such as in actinic keratosis. Additionally, it finds use in cosmetic procedures for skin rejuvenation and in the treatment of acne due to its ability to generate reactive oxygen species upon light activation.
