Used as a photoredox catalyst in organic synthesis, enabling light-driven reactions such as C–H functionalization and cross-coupling under mild conditions. Its strong oxidizing power in the excited state allows activation of substrates that are otherwise unreactive, making it valuable in pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing. Also employed in mechanistic studies of electron transfer processes due to its long-lived excited state and high photostability.
