Used as a crosslinking agent in polymer chemistry, particularly in photoaffinity labeling to study molecular interactions in biological systems. Upon exposure to light, it generates nitrene radicals that insert into nearby C–H bonds, enabling covalent linkage between biomolecules like proteins and nucleic acids. This property makes it valuable in probing binding sites and mapping protein–ligand interactions. Also applied in surface modification and functionalization of materials where controlled, light-triggered coupling is required.
