Used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric catalysis, particularly in transition metal-catalyzed reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation and cross-coupling reactions. Its rigid anthracene backbone and stereodefined phosphorus center enhance enantioselectivity, making it valuable in the synthesis of optically active pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. Effective in palladium- and rhodium-based catalytic systems where high enantiomeric excess is required. Also employed in the development of novel catalysts for C–C and C–heteroatom bond formation.
