Used as a chiral bidentate phosphine ligand in asymmetric catalysis, particularly in transition metal-catalyzed reactions such as hydrogenation, cross-coupling, and C–H activation. Its rigid, C2-symmetric backbone enhances enantioselectivity by providing a well-defined chiral environment around the metal center. Effective in rhodium- and ruthenium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenations of prochiral olefins and ketones, leading to high enantiomeric excess. Also employed in palladium-catalyzed transformations where precise stereocontrol is required. The electron-rich diarylphosphine groups improve catalyst stability and activity.
