ChenPhos is widely used as a ligand in transition metal-catalyzed reactions, particularly in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling processes. It enables efficient carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bond formation under mild conditions, making it valuable in pharmaceutical synthesis and fine chemical manufacturing. Its steric and electronic properties enhance catalyst stability and selectivity, especially in the coupling of aryl chlorides, which are less reactive than bromides or iodides. ChenPhos-based catalysts show high turnover numbers and are effective in low catalyst loadings, reducing costs and metal residues in final products. It is also employed in industrial-scale processes where robust and reproducible catalytic performance is required.
