It is primarily prescribed for managing conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where it helps reduce stomach acid production, alleviating symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation. It is also effective in treating erosive esophagitis, promoting healing of the esophageal lining damaged by stomach acid. Additionally, it is used in combination with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori infections, which are linked to peptic ulcers. It is also used to prevent gastric ulcers associated with long-term use of NSAIDs.
