Used primarily as a radiocontrast agent in medical imaging procedures. It is administered orally or intravenously to enhance the visibility of blood vessels, organs, and other internal structures during X-ray examinations, including angiography, urography, and computed tomography (CT) scans. Its high iodine content provides excellent contrast due to effective X-ray absorption. Commonly used in diagnostic evaluations of the cardiovascular system, urinary tract, and gastrointestinal system. Also utilized in some research applications involving density gradient separation of biological materials.
