Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus species. Commonly administered in cases of pneumonia, strep throat, meningitis, and endocarditis. Also used in the management of syphilis and other spirochetal infections. Due to its narrow spectrum and effectiveness against susceptible organisms, it is often preferred when targeted therapy is needed. Typically given by injection because it is poorly absorbed when taken orally.
