Used primarily to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men by reducing prostate size and improving urinary flow. It helps relieve symptoms such as frequent urination, weak stream, and difficulty starting urination. Also prescribed for male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) to promote hair regrowth and prevent further thinning, especially on the crown and mid-scalp. Works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which reduces levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone involved in prostate growth and hair follicle miniaturization. Typically taken orally as a daily tablet. Not intended for use in women, especially those who are pregnant, due to risk of fetal harm.
