Improves neuromuscular transmission in myasthenia gravis patients temporarily, leading to a noticeable increase in muscle strength within minutes of administration. The quick onset and brief duration make it ideal for the Tensilon test, where a positive response helps confirm myasthenia gravis. Also used to reverse the effects of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents after surgery, although less commonly now due to the availability of longer-acting agents. Its short half-life allows for rapid clearance, reducing the risk of prolonged side effects.
