Once absorbed, it is hydrolyzed by esterases in the cornea to release active epinephrine, which reduces aqueous humor production and lowers intraocular pressure. Its improved corneal absorption compared to epinephrine results in greater efficacy with fewer systemic side effects, making it a useful alternative in glaucoma management.
