Used in the treatment of Wilson’s disease, a condition where copper accumulates in the body. It acts by binding to copper and promoting its excretion through urine. Also employed in managing cystinuria, a disorder causing kidney stones, by reducing cystine levels in urine. Has been used off-label for rheumatoid arthritis due to its immunomodulatory effects. Additionally, it can be used in cases of heavy metal poisoning for its chelating properties.
