Cloxacillin benzathine is used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains, particularly those involving beta-lactamase-producing staphylococci. It is effective in treating respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone infections such as osteomyelitis. Due to its slow release profile, it provides prolonged antibiotic activity, making it suitable for conditions requiring extended therapy with less frequent dosing. It is often administered by intramuscular injection and is especially useful when long-acting penicillin resistant to staphylococcal penicillinase is needed. Its stability against staphylococcal penicillinase makes it a preferred choice in confirmed or suspected penicillin-resistant staphylococcal infections. It should be used under medical supervision and is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins.
