It is effective in managing respiratory diseases in pigs, including enzootic pneumonia, and intestinal diseases like swine dysentery. In poultry, it is used to treat chronic respiratory disease and intestinal spirochetosis. Tiamulin is often administered through feed or drinking water for mass treatment and control in herds or flocks. It is also sometimes used in combination with other antimicrobials, such as ionophore coccidiostats in poultry, though care must be taken due to potential drug interactions. Its use is restricted to animals and not approved for human therapy.
