Used as a coccidiostat in poultry and livestock feed to prevent coccidiosis, a parasitic disease affecting the intestinal tract. It works by inhibiting the mitochondrial electron transport in the parasites, thereby stopping their growth and reproduction. Commonly added to feed in low concentrations for prophylactic control in broiler chickens and other farm animals. Also investigated for potential antiparasitic activity in aquaculture and companion animals.
