Used as a synergistic antibacterial agent in veterinary medicine, particularly in combination with sulfonamides to treat bacterial infections in livestock and poultry. It enhances the efficacy of sulfonamides by inhibiting dihydrofolate reductase, an enzyme involved in folate synthesis, thereby reducing the development of resistance and broadening the spectrum of action. Commonly applied in the prevention and treatment of respiratory, gastrointestinal, and systemic infections in animals.
