Used primarily to treat acute migraine and cluster headaches. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and reducing substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. It is not intended for the prevention of migraines but rather for relief during an attack. Available in multiple forms—oral tablets, nasal spray, and subcutaneous injection—for rapid symptom relief. Most effective when taken early in a migraine episode. Not suitable for patients with uncontrolled hypertension, coronary artery disease, or history of stroke.
