Used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten, allowing blood vessels to relax and blood pressure to decrease. This helps reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuria. Often prescribed as part of a long-term treatment plan and may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medications.
