Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, particularly in the development of herbicides and plant growth regulators. Its structure allows for the introduction of guanidine functionalities, which can enhance biological activity in crop protection agents. Also investigated for use in the preparation of specialty chemicals requiring nitrile and guanidine group reactivity.
