Used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy and after surgery. It works by blocking the action of substance called substance P in the brain, which can trigger vomiting. Often given in combination with other anti-nausea medicines for better effect, especially during highly emetogenic chemotherapy. Also used in postoperative settings to reduce the risk of vomiting after anesthesia.
