Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, especially those caused by gram-negative bacteria. Commonly applied in eye drops, ointments, and ear drops for localized infections. Also used in topical formulations for skin infections and wounds. In severe cases, it may be administered intravenously or intramuscularly under medical supervision. Frequently included in cell culture media to prevent bacterial contamination. Not effective against viral infections.
