Widely used as a pre-emergent herbicide in agriculture and non-crop areas to control annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds. It is applied to soil before weed seeds germinate, forming a chemical barrier that inhibits cell division in root and shoot development of susceptible plants. Commonly used in corn, soybeans, cotton, and vegetables, as well as in ornamental turf and industrial sites. Effective for season-long weed control when applied early. Often applied through ground spray equipment, and its residual activity provides extended protection. Requires incorporation into the soil surface via rainfall or irrigation for optimal performance.
