Used as a selective herbicide in agriculture, particularly in cereal crops, orchards, and vineyards. It controls a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds and some grass species by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), an enzyme involved in chlorophyll synthesis. This disruption leads to the accumulation of toxic compounds in plant tissues, causing rapid desiccation and death of susceptible weeds. Applied pre-emergence or early post-emergence, it provides residual control and is often used in rotation with other herbicides to manage resistant weed populations. Its low application rate and effectiveness in cool conditions make it suitable for use in temperate climates.
