Used as a precursor in the synthesis of perovskite materials for solar cells, particularly in the fabrication of formamidinium-based lead halide perovskites which exhibit high photovoltaic efficiency and improved thermal stability compared to methylammonium analogs. It serves as a source of the formamidinium cation, which helps tune the bandgap and enhance the light absorption range in perovskite thin films. Also employed in organic synthesis as a reagent for generating formamidinium salts and in the preparation of ionic liquids for catalysis and electrochemical applications.
