L-5-MTHF-Ca supports the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine, effectively lowering plasma homocysteine (tHcy) levels—an independent cardiovascular risk factor. Studies show that L-5-MTHF is as effective as folic acid in reducing tHcy levels, with improved endothelial function and reduced oxidative stress in vascular tissues.

It avoids the issue of unmetabolized folic acid (UMFA) seen in some populations. Some studies report a lower incidence of preeclampsia and better maternal-fetal folate status compared to folic acid.
