AG-270 is a potent and selective inhibitor of the MAT2A enzyme, which plays a key role in methionine metabolism and cellular methylation processes. It is primarily investigated for its anticancer properties, especially in tumors with mutations in the MTAP gene—commonly found in certain types of lung, pancreatic, and bladder cancers. By inhibiting MAT2A, AG-270 disrupts the production of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), a major methyl donor, leading to impaired cancer cell growth and survival. Its targeted mechanism makes it a promising candidate in precision oncology, particularly in synthetic lethal therapeutic strategies. AG-270 is currently being evaluated in preclinical and early clinical studies to assess its efficacy and safety in treating MTAP-deficient cancers.
