This compound is a guanosine nucleoside analog primarily used in antiviral therapy against RNA viruses, including coronaviruses (e.g., SARS-CoV-2) and filoviruses (e.g., Ebola). It acts as a chain terminator by being incorporated into nascent viral RNA by the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), halting viral replication. Its modified 4'-fluoro sugar structure confers resistance to phosphorolytic cleavage, enhancing its therapeutic efficacy.
