Used in oligonucleotide synthesis as a protected adenosine derivative, enabling controlled and stepwise assembly of DNA strands. The 5'-O-DMT group provides temporary protection for the 5'-hydroxyl, allowing selective coupling during solid-phase synthesis. The N6-acetyl group protects the exocyclic amine of adenine, preventing side reactions. After coupling, the DMT group can be removed under mild acidic conditions for chain elongation, while the acetyl group is removed during final deprotection. Commonly used in the production of antisense oligonucleotides, primers, and probes for molecular biology and therapeutic applications.
