Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, particularly in the production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It serves in the preparation of isobutyramides and other nitrogen-containing compounds. Also employed in the synthesis of specialty solvents and in the manufacture of certain dyes and pigments. Its reactivity makes it valuable in carbon chain extension reactions and in the formation of carboxylic acids via hydrolysis.
