Used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in fluorination reactions and transformations involving C–H activation. Its strong Lewis acidic properties make it effective in promoting electrophilic reactions and facilitating the formation of carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bonds. Also employed in electrochemical applications and material science for the preparation of nickel-containing thin films and functional coatings. Soluble in various organic solvents, it is suitable for homogeneous catalytic systems.
