Perospirone is an atypical antipsychotic used primarily in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. It helps manage symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking by modulating dopamine and serotonin activity in the brain. Due to its action on serotonin 5-HT2A and dopamine D2 receptors, it has a lower risk of extrapyramidal side effects compared to older antipsychotics.
