Used in the treatment of osteoporosis, particularly in postmenopausal women and men at high risk of fractures. It works by inhibiting sclerostin, a protein that suppresses bone formation. By blocking sclerostin, the antibody enhances bone mineral density and strength, reducing the risk of fractures. It is administered via periodic intravenous or subcutaneous injection and is being investigated for use in other bone-related disorders such as fracture healing and rare skeletal diseases. Clinical trials have shown significant increases in bone mass and improved biomechanical properties of bone with sustained treatment.
