Used in the treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma, this antibody targets the IL-5 receptor alpha subunit (CD125) on eosinophils and basophils. By binding to CD125, it induces antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, leading to the depletion of eosinophils—key inflammatory cells involved in asthma pathogenesis. It helps reduce asthma exacerbations, improve lung function, and decrease dependence on oral corticosteroids in eligible patients. Also under investigation for other eosinophil-driven conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with eosinophilic inflammation, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), and hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES).
