Used in the treatment of cancer, particularly in targeting tumor angiogenesis. It binds to endoglin (CD105), a protein highly expressed on proliferating endothelial cells in tumor blood vessels. By targeting this protein, it inhibits the formation of new blood vessels that supply tumors, thereby restricting tumor growth and metastasis. It has been investigated in clinical trials for solid tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma and other advanced cancers. Its mechanism also involves antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), enhancing immune-mediated destruction of tumor vasculature.
