Used primarily in the treatment of multiple myeloma, this antibody targets CD38-expressing cancer cells, triggering their destruction through multiple mechanisms including antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, complement-dependent cytotoxicity, and apoptosis. It is administered intravenously and has become a key component in combination therapies with immunomodulatory drugs, corticosteroids, and proteasome inhibitors. Its high specificity for CD38 allows for targeted therapy with reduced impact on healthy cells, improving patient outcomes in both newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory cases. Additionally, it is being investigated for use in other CD38-positive hematologic malignancies and autoimmune disorders.
